Analysis of Bias in Gathering Information Between User Attributes in News Application

In the process of information gathering on the web, confirmation bias is known to exist, exemplified in phenomena such as echo chambers and filter bubbles. Our purpose is to reveal how people consume news and discuss these phenomena. In web services, we are able to use action logs of a service to investigate these phenomena. However, many existing studies about these phenomena are conducted via questionnaires, and there are few studies using action logs. In this paper, we attempt to discover biases of information gathering due to differences in user demographic attributes, such as age and gender, from the behavior log of the news distribution service. First, we summarized the actions in the service for each user attribute and showed the difference of user behavior depending on the attributes. Next, the degree of correlation between the attributes was measured using the correlation coefficient, and a strong correlation was found to exist in the browsing tendency of the news articles between the attributes. Then, the bias of keywords between attributes was discovered, keywords with bias in behavior among the attributes were found using parameters of regression analysis. Since these discovered keywords are almost explainable by big news, our proposed method is effective in detecting biased keywords.Comment: 8 pages, 13 figure, IEEE BigData 2018 Workshop : The 3rd International Workshop on Application of Big Data for Computational Social Science (ABCSS2018

A case of Jujunal diverticulitis with enterolith in elderly patient Which was successfully treated by laparoscopic assisted operation

An 82-year-old man visited his primary care doctor for epigastralgia and lower abdominal fullness. The next day, he was referred to our hospital on suspicion of ileus. Abdominal CT scan revealed dilated intestinal loops and a well-circumscribed mass lesion within the small bowel. We performed an emergency operation based on the diagnosis of secondary enterolith ileus. Laparoscopy demonstrated numerous large diverticula on the dilated jejunum. We removed the inflammatory intestinal mass from the abdominal cavity and partially resected the small intestine. Pathology indicated diverticulitis with enterolith. Jejunal diverticulitis is rare and difficult to diagnose preoperatively. The laparoscopic procedure was useful to detect the location of the inflammatory mass and multiple diverticula. Furthermore, laparoscopy is useful for checking the peritoneal cavity for irregular communication between the gallbladder and the gastrointestinal tract to exclude gallstone ileus in cases of enterolith causing bowel obstruction. Jejunal diverticular disease should be considered in the differential diagnosis of mechanical bowel obstruction, especially in the elderly population

Mechanical Properties of 5083 Aluminum Alloy Sheets Produced by Isothermal Rolling

The microstructure and mechanical properties of AA5083 aluminum alloy sheets consisting of well developed -fiber texture were investigated. In order to maintain rolling textures after final annealing, the materials were rolled isothermally at 623 K by making use of heated rolls and reheating process every pass up to final thickness of 1 mm. The isothermal rolled sheets consisted of fine subgrain structures through the thickness with a high proportion of low angle boundary less than 15 . Tensile properties showed anisotropy clearly regarding elongation and Lankford value. In the isothermal rolled sheets, the elongation of 0 to rolling direction was below 20% and Lankford value of 45 to rolling direction was over 1.5. Therefore, the average Lankford value showed 1.0. The yield strength of the isothermal rolled sheets was about 40% higher than that of the cold rolled sheets because of subgrain structures. The low ductility of 0 to rolling direction on the isothermal rolled sheets seemed to reduce drawability at room temperature. The warm drawability of the isothermal rolled sheets improved and was superior to the cold rolled sheets because of increasing ductility and keeping higher strength than the cold rolled sheets

The purposes of this study were to examine the effects of structured disclosure to enhance cognitive reappraisal of negative emotional experience on health and working memory in a Japanese sample, and to investigate the effects of the structured disclosure in those who can “keep away from thinking and emotion” (distancing). The participants were 75 undergraduates. They were randomly assigned to structured disclosure (n=25), free disclosure, which was developed by Pennebaker, J. W. (n=25), and control groups (n=25). They were asked to disclose through writing for 20 minutes on 3 days. It is suggested that the structured disclosure may improve physical symptoms, because there was a significant trend in interaction between groups and time periods on physical symptoms, and effect size of the structured group was modest. Though all the participants in the groups revealed significantly improvements in other health measures and score of working memory from pre to 2 week, 1 month, and 3 month follow-up assessment times, no interaction effects were obtained. It is showed that those who could keep away from thinking and emotion while writing (high-distanced) can significantly improve scores of posttraumatic stress reactions and pain of the negative emotional experience than those who could not do so (low-distanced). These results and the mechanism of the disclosure were discussed from the view point of metacognition
